Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is excited to present this sweet Le Mans Blue 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS, that we've nicknamed "Sneaky Pete". One of the most iconic of the Pony Car era battles, the 1969 Camaro has developed a definite cult-like following. The Camaro was introduced in 1967 as Chevrolet's answer to combat the success of Ford's Mustang, which created a whole new vehicle segment and started an entirely new battle for road & track supremacy. For 1969, the Camaro received all-new sheet metal (except for the hood and trunk), which served to give the car a substantially sportier look. The grille was redesigned with the heavy "V" cant, and the headlights were given a new recessed position. New door skins, rear quarter panels, and rear valance panel also gave the car a much lower, wider, and more aggressive look. The wheel wells were flattened with sculpted feature lines flowing off towards the rear of the car and rear-slanting simulated air slots were positioned ahead of the rear wheel. The front had a full width chrome bumper integrated with the body color grille surround and round parking lights positioned on either side of the license plate. At the rear were wider tail light bezels with triple segment lenses. This styling is considered by many Camaro enthusiasts as the ultimate muscle car look and arguably the most desirable. This car is presented in its original LeMans Blue paint (as depicted on the cowl tag), along its vintage white hockey stripe accents & white Houndstooth interior.
Under the hood of this late production 1st gen Camaro (built 2nd week of December 1969, according to the trim tag) used to sit a nicely done 350 small block, however just a couple months ago, there was a nasty 525hp LS3 crate engine, a Holley midrise injection intake, new fuel pump & sending unit with regulator, a cold air intake box, wrapped Holley long tube headers feed into its true dual exhaust that gives it that vintage muscle car sound, an ECM Terminator Max wiring harness, all professionally installed by restoration & performance builder Bob LaPole out of Spring, TX. This is a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, which shifts smoothly due to the new HP clutch & flywheel, and it sends all this the power to its 12-bolt Posi rear end that just had new bearings as well as a 3.08 ring & pinion kit installed. As a matter of fact, we have over k worth of invoices on work done to Sneaky Pete this year alone! This vintage '69 Camaro rides on a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires (P235/60R15 in front, P255/60R15 out back) on its Rally Wheels, giving it an iconic and classic look, all the while hiding what a true performance vehicle this Camaro really is! A set of traction bars helps reduce axle hop under hard acceleration from a stop, and their chrome plating adds some pizazz, and the front suspension has been stiffened up and all new polyurethane bushings were installed. Overall, the paint looks very good, and the Parchment Vinyl Top (as depicted on the trim tag) is in great shape as well. [ omitted ]. The woodgrain dash (and other trim accents) is in very good shape and are housing a new set of Dakota digital gauges and a retro-looking AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo, as well as the center console mounted gauge cluster that the SS Camaros were known for. This is the kind of vehicle that we dreamed about in our younger years & now, here it sits!
