Description

Possible Civil War U.S. Model 1860 Staff and Field Officers' Sword measuring 35.5" overall with a blade length of 30".  Sword  is in good shape overall shows a gray silver age patina,  Blade edge is very good, no chips, etc. with the very tip showing some pitting/rust.   No wire wrap or leather on handle, wood exposed with two small cracks on top and bottom of wood by the guard. The knuckle bow has some looseness.  The three ring scabbard is brass missing the throat end piece along with the drag are missing. Scabbard also has dings, dents and is crooked nearer to the front.  Ricasso area of blade marked, SCHNITZLER/A&A SOLINGEN".  August & Albert Schnitzler's Company was in business from 1864-1873 and sold swords to the U.S., in the North. May be Civil War Era or just after. Nice floral etching on the blade both sides about 9.5" upward from the hilt.
